Writing for High Profile Publications - Live Coaching Workshop

A one-day, hands-on workshop with personalized coaching

Wednesday, September 23 • 10am–4pm • New York City
Capped at 15 participants

Writing for high profile publications is one of the most powerful ways to share your ideas, attract new opportunities, and build your professional reputation. But the path from “I have an idea” to “My article is published” can often feel opaque — especially when you’re trying to break into outlets like Harvard Business Review, Fast Company, Inc., or other prominent platforms.

This one-day workshop demystifies that process.

Hosted in New York City, this live session brings together Dorie Clark with special guest Dagny Dukach, former editor at Harvard Business Review. Together, we’ll walk you step-by-step through how to refine, position, and strengthen your ideas. You'll leave the day with refined ideas you can pitch, and with hands-on edits and personalized feedback on your draft article.

RExSummit attendees will receive a discounted rate ($1500 as compared to the regular rate of $2000), and the first opportunity to register for the event. This workshop is expected to sell out quickly, like RExSummit and Dorie's upcoming Mastering the Business of Speaking workshop.

100% Interactive Workshop

This isn’t a passive seminar. It’s a practical working session designed to help you make major progress in a single day. It's useful and relevant even if you've already taken the Writing for High Profile Publications online course, because this is something different - a personalized day of writing coaching. Registration is capped at 15 to ensure there's plenty of time for each participant.

Before the workshop, you’ll come prepared with:

  • A set of article ideas, and

  • A full draft of one piece (1000 words or less)

Throughout the day, we’ll workshop your drafts, sharpen your arguments, strengthen your structure, and help you understand what editors of major publications are looking for.

I'll share my experiences and insights from having written nearly 300 pieces for Harvard Business Review, 250+ for Forbes, and many more for publications such as Fast Company, Entrepreneur, Inc., TIME, Newsweek, Business Insider, and more.

Dagny will also join us for the entire day, offering real-time editorial feedback from the perspective of someone who has selected, shaped, and greenlit hundreds of pieces for HBR.

What You'll Learn

By the end of the workshop, you will know how to:

  • Identify and refine ideas that are compelling to top-tier editors

  • Structure your article the way high-profile publications expect

  • Position your expertise so your pitch and draft stand out

  • Strengthen your writing through hands-on, personalized feedback

  • Avoid the most common pitfalls that cause submissions to be rejected

  • Create a repeatable process for generating publishable thought-leadership pieces

Most importantly, you’ll leave with article ideas plus a revised article draft that’s meaningfully closer to ready — and a clear plan for next steps.

Personal Editorial Support (Included)

Every participant will also receive a free 30-minute follow-up call with Dagny in the weeks after the workshop, included as part of this program.

This is your chance to:

  • Review your revised draft

  • Troubleshoot structural or framing challenges

  • Fine-tune your narrative

  • Discuss publication strategy

This one-on-one guidance is designed to make sure your piece is as strong as possible when you submit it.

Who This Is For

This workshop is ideal for you if:

  • You have ideas you know are strong — but you’re not sure how to shape them for publication

  • You’ve written drafts that haven’t gone anywhere, and you want clearer guidance

  • You’re ready to invest concentrated time in creating high-impact thought leadership

  • You value direct, constructive feedback from people who understand editorial standards at the highest level

  • You want a practical, supportive environment to finally get your article written — and written well

If you’re ready to share your ideas more widely, this hands-on workshop will help you get there.

FAQ

  • Is this useful even if I've already taken the online Writing for High Profile Publications course?

Yes - this is a meaningfully different experience. The vast majority of the day will be focused on workshopping ideas and reviewing and providing guidance on articles in real time, so this is very customized. The online course is a great starting point, but this workshop will enable you to receive highly personalized feedback that can help you advance to the next level in your writing.

  • Is there any preparation required?

Please come with a list of article ideas, as well as a draft article (no more than 1000 words) you'd like us to review.

  • If I haven't yet taken the Writing for High Profile Publications course, is that a good idea?

It's not required, but yes - it's definitely a good idea, as it will help ground you in key concepts. You can check it out and register here: https://learn.dorieclark.com/courses/highprofile

  • Can I transfer my ticket if I can’t attend?

Because of the limited group size, all registrations are final. However, if an unexpected conflict arises, you may transfer your spot to another participant who would benefit from the experience (please be sure to let us know).
