Mastering the Business of Speaking

A Two-Day Intensive with Dorie Clark: March 5–6, 2026 Miami, Florida

Learn the Art — and Business — of Professional Speaking

If you’ve ever wondered how to turn your expertise into a thriving professional speaking career, this is your chance to learn exactly how it’s done—from someone who’s built a successful business doing it.

Over two transformative days in Miami, I’ll share the proven strategies, systems, and behind-the-scenes insights that have helped me build a keynote speaking business with clients including Google, IBM, Disney, Fidelity, Microsoft, and the World Bank, and standard keynote fees of $40,000 per in-person talk and $20,000 per virtual talk.

For the first time, I’m pulling back the curtain on how to:

✅ Build a paid speaking practice that’s both sustainable and scalable

✅ Create keynote talks that consistently win over audiences and event organizers

✅ Position yourself to attract high-profile speaking opportunities

✅ Deliver powerful virtual presentations that engage and convert

✅ Build the business infrastructure that makes professional speaking a dependable revenue stream

For more than a decade, I taught executives at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business how to master the art of powerful communication. In this intimate workshop, I’ll be sharing those same strategies—and, for the first time ever, offering an open, behind-the-scenes look at exactly how I built a successful paid speaking career from the ground up.

What Makes This Experience Different

This isn’t a lecture-style seminar or a theory-heavy class.

It’s a small, supportive, hands-on intensive designed for real progress.

You’ll learn the strategies and tools I use every day in my speaking business—and you’ll also practice them. Each participant will have the opportunity to deliver a short 5-minute talk in a supportive environment and receive personalized feedback from me to help you strengthen your message, your delivery, and your impact.

You’ll also:

  • Gain practical insights about how to set (and raise) your fees

  • Learn how to handle inquiries and negotiations confidently

  • Discover how to market yourself authentically in a crowded field

  • Understand the differences between corporate, association, and conference speaking—and how to excel in each

Speaking has changed dramatically in recent years.

Between the rise of AI, the evolution of virtual events, and increasing competition, success now requires both mastery of your message and business savvy.

This workshop gives you both.

You’ll leave with an actionable plan to elevate your speaking practice—plus the clarity and confidence to step onto any stage (or screen) and deliver your message powerfully.

FAQ

  • Do I need prior speaking experience to attend?

Not at all. This workshop is designed for both aspiring and experienced speakers. Whether you’ve delivered dozens of talks or are preparing for your first keynote, you’ll gain the tools, insights, and strategies you need to grow.

  • What exactly will we be doing over the two days?

You’ll learn the business side of professional speaking—how to find engagements, set your fees, and manage client relationships—alongside hands-on training to sharpen your craft. Each participant will also deliver a short, five-minute talk and receive personalized, encouraging feedback from me to help strengthen your message, delivery, and confidence.

  • Will the environment be supportive? I’m nervous about presenting in front of others.

Absolutely. This is a small, inclusive, and encouraging group (limited to just 15 people). The goal is to help everyone grow—not to judge or critique harshly. You’ll be guided through the process step by step, and you’ll receive constructive insights in a safe, collegial atmosphere.

  • Will we talk about virtual presentations too?

Yes. In addition to in-person speaking strategies, I'll share my techniques for delivering compelling virtual presentations—insights drawn from years of experience earning $20,000 per virtual keynote. You’ll learn how to engage audiences online and make virtual talks a key part of your speaking portfolio.

  • What makes Dorie qualified to teach this?

I've been a paid keynote speaker for more than a decade, commanding $40,000 per talk and speaking for organizations including Google, IBM, Disney, Microsoft, Fidelity, and the World Bank. I've delivered four TEDx talks, spoken at South by Southwest Interactive, and earned hundreds of thousands of dollars annually through professional speaking. This is the first time I've shared the full behind-the-scenes playbook—everything from content creation to pricing, pitching, and delivery.

  • Is there any preparation required?

It's helpful to come with one topic or story you might like to share in your five-minute talk—something that represents your message or area of expertise. You’ll have time to refine it during the workshop.

  • Can I transfer my ticket if I can’t attend?

Because of the limited group size, all registrations are final. However, if an unexpected conflict arises, you may transfer your spot to another participant who would benefit from the experience (please be sure to let us know).

  • Will the sessions be recorded or available later?

No—this is a live, in-person experience only. The workshop is designed to be intimate, interactive, and confidential so participants can share openly and experiment freely.

  • What will I walk away with?

By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a personalized plan for building or growing your speaking business; actionable techniques for crafting and delivering memorable talks; insider knowledge about the professional speaking industry; a refined short talk and feedback you can use to improve future presentations; and a network of talented, supportive peers who are on the same journey.
